Download a Youku video: public versus members-only
A large share of Youku's catalogue is members-only, so which links can be handled matters more than how to copy one. This page covers public video pages, the VIP boundary, and why channel and album pages cannot be resolved.
How it works
- Open the video on Youku and copy the full address from the browser (the v.youku.com/v_show/id_….html form).
- Paste it into the VidFable box, unchanged — not just the title or a truncated link.
- Confirm you own the video or are authorised to download it, then press Parse and download.
- Download from the delivery panel; the file is removed from our servers once you have it.
A Youku video page looks like v.youku.com/v_show/id_….html, where the part after id_ identifies that one video. It is a single-media page, so it can be pasted directly.
Content that needs a VIP membership, a paid rental or a separate purchase — series, films, variety shows — is out of scope. It needs account entitlements, and VidFable neither collects account credentials nor offers a way around a paywall or access control.
Public videos usually publish several quality tiers from standard definition up to 1080p. The highest deliverable tier the source returns is selected; a tier it does not publish cannot be produced.
Channel pages, album pages and search results are listings rather than a single video, so they cannot be parsed. Open the specific video first and copy its page address — that is the most common reason a Youku link fails.
Some content is region-restricted and simply unreachable from outside mainland China. That is a platform-side restriction rather than a limitation of the parser.
Frequently asked questions
Can Youku VIP or paid content be downloaded?
No. It needs account entitlements, and VidFable neither takes credentials nor bypasses a paywall.
What is the highest quality Youku offers?
Whatever that video publicly returns for the request. Public videos commonly cover up to 1080p; an unpublished tier cannot be produced.
Can a channel or album page be parsed directly?
No. Those are listings with no single video. Open the specific video and copy its page address.
Why do some Youku links not open?
Usually the content is region-restricted, has been taken down, or needs a login. Such items are out of scope.
Do I need a Youku account?
No, and please do not provide one. Parsing uses the public link only.
What if a Youku parse times out?
The platform throttles bursts of requests. Wait a few minutes and retry once rather than resubmitting the same link.
Supported platforms
