How long a video download takes, and why it is not instant
VidFable does not pass the video stream straight through to you — it fetches the complete file on the server, verifies it, and only then offers the download. There is therefore a wait between submitting a link and being able to download. This page explains where that time goes, roughly how long each platform takes, and what to do if it is slow enough to time out.
Almost all of the wait is the server fetching the file from the source platform. The resolver asks the platform for the media stream, pulls the video and audio tracks down in full (merging them when the platform publishes them separately), and hands the result to the site. The download button does not appear until that has finished.
The time depends on how fast the source platform responds, not on your own connection. The same link can be quick at one moment and slow at another, because platforms throttle bursts of requests.
In practice: a short Xiaohongshu clip usually completes within about fifteen seconds; Bilibili and Douyin commonly take fifteen seconds to a minute; YouTube, with far more formats and some slow routes, can take one to several minutes.
If a task sits on “preparing your file” for a long time, it is usually the source platform responding slowly rather than the task being stuck. The page keeps showing the current state, and a failure produces an explicit message with a Start over button.
After a timeout, do not resubmit the same link repeatedly — that makes the platform's throttling worse and the next attempt slower. Waiting a few minutes usually clears it.
The server fetches the complete source file before offering it for download, so a request typically takes between ten seconds and a few minutes depending on how fast the source platform responds.
Frequently asked questions
Why is the download button slow to appear?
The server fetches the complete file from the source — merging tracks when the platform publishes them separately — before offering it, and the button does not appear until that finishes.
Roughly how long does each platform take?
A short Xiaohongshu clip is usually about fifteen seconds; Bilibili and Douyin commonly take fifteen seconds to a minute; YouTube, with more formats and some slow routes, one to several minutes.
What should I do after a timeout?
Wait a few minutes and retry once. Repeated submission makes the platform's throttling worse.
