File over 250 MB: what the delivery cap means
A single VidFable delivery is capped at 250 MB. That is a capacity boundary in the delivery step, not a limit on parsing. This page covers when it is hit and what is workable inside it.
How it works
- Check whether that video publishes more than one resolution.
- If you only need part of it, cut that part first rather than processing the whole thing.
- Pick a lower resolution — the size drops by more than the resolution numbers suggest.
- If your goal really is archiving a very large file, use a local tool instead of pulling the whole media server-side.
The cap applies to the size of one delivery. Media that reaches it does not enter the delivery pipeline at all.
It is hit most easily by long video at high resolution. Thirty minutes of 4K passes 250 MB comfortably, while the same thirty minutes at 720p usually stays far below it.
Choosing a lower resolution is the most direct fix. The size falls by more than the resolution numbers suggest, because the higher tiers also carry a higher bitrate — 4K to 720p is often a drop to a fraction of the size.
If you only need a short section, cutting that section before submitting is usually a better answer than lowering the resolution of the whole video.
One easy thing to miss: some sources publish their high-resolution tiers as a video track only, with no audio. Those are smaller than a complete file but are not suitable as a finished delivery.
If the goal is long-term storage of a very large file, online delivery is the wrong tool — that job belongs to a local one, not to fetching the whole media server-side once.
Frequently asked questions
What exactly is the cap?
A single delivery is capped at 250 MB. Media that reaches the cap does not enter the delivery pipeline.
Does dropping the resolution hurt visibly?
Going from 4K to 1080p or 720p is usually hard to notice on a phone or an ordinary monitor; whether it is acceptable depends on what you need it for.
Why not make the cap configurable?
A delivery fetches the complete file server-side before offering it, so its size directly drives the resources and time it takes. 250 MB is the boundary at the current configuration.
