Download a Facebook video from a public post
Facebook's share sheet produces an fb.watch short link, and a public video often publishes both an SD and an HD version. This page covers how the short link is expanded, how the version is chosen, and what never enters the pipeline.
How it works

Facebook shares come in two shapes: a full URL carrying the video id, or an fb.watch short link. The short link has to be expanded once server-side to locate the video, and both shapes can be pasted directly.
A public Facebook video often publishes both a standard-definition and a high-definition version. The highest deliverable one is selected rather than a fixed version being returned.
Publicly visible videos are supported. Videos inside private groups, posts visible to friends only, profile content that requires a login, and region-restricted videos are out of scope.
The address produced by Copy link sometimes carries tracking parameters. They do not affect parsing, so paste it as it is rather than cleaning it up by hand.
If the link you have points at a page or album listing rather than one video, parsing will fail: a listing has no single media item to extract. Open the specific video first and copy its share link.
Facebook Reels and ordinary video posts have different URL shapes, but both are detail pages for a single media item, so either can be pasted as it is.
